About World Kindness Day

November 13 was launched in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of kindness-focused NGOs from several countries, aiming to promote kindness across communities, organizations, and nations.

It's observed in various forms in dozens of countries, typically through community acts of kindness and awareness campaigns rather than a single standardized global program.

Japan, Australia, Canada, and the UAE are among the countries where the observance has taken particularly strong hold with organized national campaigns, despite its origin as a grassroots NGO coalition rather than a single government's initiative.

Singapore has run particularly large-scale, government-supported kindness campaigns tied to the day, including a long-running national "Kindness Movement" that predates the day's own 1998 international founding.

The World Kindness Movement behind the day grew out of an earlier 1997 Tokyo conference of like-minded charitable organizations from several countries, formalizing what had been more scattered national kindness initiatives.
