What Day Was the founding of Amazon?
the founding of Amazon
About this date
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon out of his garage in Bellevue, Washington, initially launching as an online bookstore before expanding into a vastly broader e-commerce and technology company.
The company's original working name was reportedly "Cadabra," changed after Bezos's lawyer misheard it as "cadaver" over the phone, before settling on "Amazon" for its association with the world's largest river.
Amazon shipped its first book order later that same year, and the company has since expanded into cloud computing, streaming, logistics, and numerous other industries well beyond its bookstore origins.
Bezos reportedly chose to start with books specifically because of the sheer number of titles in print, far more than any physical bookstore could stock, making it a strong first test case for the advantages of online retail.
